Brian Zernich, Interventional Radiologist

I am a Board-Certified Radiologist with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Interventional Radiology. I am currently self-employed and working for several clients as an independent contractor.

I have been working part time at as a diagnostic and interventional radiologist for approximately 6 years at the Honor Health owned hospitals in Arizona which include Mountain Vista Medical Center, Tempe St. Lukes Hospital, Mesa General Hospital, and Florence Hospital.

I also specialize in providing custom, curated, cardiac imaging overreads, and other vascular CT reads for two Phoenix metro cardiology groups, Cardiovascular Consultants, and Phoenix Heart.

I work on an as needed basis for Laser Vascular, Mesa, AZ. I work at their office-based lab and perform vascular procedures on patients with peripheral vascular disease and embolization procedures of the geniculate arteries on patients with chronic knee pain.

From January 2020 until March 2024 my primary employment was with Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute in Mesa, Arizona. I worked at their office-based laboratory assisting in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with peripheral vascular disease. While there, I performed approximately 1,500 cases.

From February 2018 until December 2019, I was working for Modern Vascular, which owned and operated Office Based Labs specializing in Vascular Medicine. I performed patient consultations and Endovascular Procedures in an outpatient setting. While at Modern Vascular I performed approximately 1,500 procedures.

My skill level, when performing these cases, includes ultrasound guided retrograde or antegrade access, pedal access, intravascular ultrasound, tibial artery and pedal artery treatments, passing wires and catheters around the pedal loop, all varieties of atherectomy, angioplasty, stenting, and embolization’s.

Prior to that, I worked for Medical Diagnostic Imaging Group. I joined that practice in July 2000 at which time the group consisted of 14 doctors. Between joining and when I departed in February 2018 it had grown to approximately 34 partners and 25 employee Radiologists.

While in that practice, my time was divided between Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology. In that practice I performed interventional procedures at 8 different hospitals and read cases for approximately 30 hospitals. I was a high-volume reader. When working from home I was usually #1 or 2 in production out of 50 working radiologists all sharing the same list (approximately 225 to 250 cases per 9-hour shift).

I have been Medical Director of the Department of Radiology at 5 different hospitals (at one point, all 5 at once). I was Medical Director of the Ultrasound Program at Central Arizona Community Hospital for 2 years. I was on the Board of Directors of my Radiology group for 12 years. I was in charge of making the schedule for 50 radiologists for 5 years. I have been Physician of the Year Runner Up at my primary place of work 3 times. What I am most proud of is that I have not missed a day of work since I started working in 1996 (28 years and running).
